Oct 18, 2011 (newstodate): Russia's Ufa International Airport, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, is to upgrade its runway capability.
The airport has been granted funds to acquire new runway lighting systems allowing for CAT III certification.
The equipment will be implemented as part of the airport's masterplan 2030 that includes a range of development projects that will see the airport's passenger volumes growing from 1.5 mio in 2010, to six million by 2025.
The airport, one of Russia's 12 strategically important gateways and home base for the LCC Air Bashkortostan and Ufa Airlines, has three grass airstrips as well as one 3,761m and one 2,513m concrete runway.
So far the only non-Russian airline operating at Ufa Airport is flyDubai that launched operations on a new route from Dubai on September 17, 2011.
