Oct 31, 2011 (newstodate): Romania has gained EU suport to modernization of the country's Suceava Stefan cel Mare Airport.
The Romanian state and Suceava county have signed the agreement to jointly develop Suceava Airport to modern standards under the Transport Operational Program financed by EU, Romanian state and county budgets.
The first phase will be a tender, ending in March 2012, for design and project management, followed by start of construction work by September 2012.
The project will include extension of the existing 2,000m runway, new airnav and ILS systems, and construction of a new ATC tower.
Currently, the only scheduled flights from the airport is Tarom's daily route to Bucharest with ATR aircraft.
