Oct 06, 2011 (newstodate): Cargo volume are rising in 2011 at Poland's Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, at the Baltic coast.
During the first eight months of this year, the airport has seen its cargo volumes increasing by 14 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 3,221 tonnes.
The slack summer season did, however, slow down the growth somewhat as the volumes in the first half of the year grew by 18 percent, reaching 2,400 tonnes.
Among the carriers driving the cargo business are LOT, Lufthansa, and airBaltic.
The airport is currently investing heavily in modernization project including extended taxiways, aircraft apron, a new de-icing platform, and other infrastructure elements.
In 2010 the airport handled a total of 4,487 tonnes of cargo, up 10 percent, y-o-y.
