Oct 26, 2011 (newstodate): Sweden's airfreight industry is taking a strong blow from the global economic crisis in 2011 - but one airport, at least, remains upbeat over its performance in 2011.
-At Jonkoping Airport we have seen cargo volumes rising month by month through 2011, says Sten Norinder, Jonkoping Airport managing director since July 1, 2011.
-Since the formation of Jonkoping Airport AB on January 1, 2010, following on the acquisition of the airport from its former state owner, LFV, cargo and mail volumes have actually been increasing in 18 out of 20 months.
-In 2010, the airport's cargo and mail volumes grew by 16 percent , y-o-y, to a total of 4,699 tonnes, and we now expect this year's total to land around 5,400 tonnes, up a further 15-16 percent, y-o-y.
-Logistically, the Jonkoping region benefits from access to both rail, road and air transport options, and the importance of air cargo capacity has been growing significantly. We are confident that we will be able to provide a sustained growth in airfreight capacity in 2012 as well.
-TNT's In-night product has shown significant growth during the last six months. These time-sensitive shipments are flown from TNT's hub at Liege into the Scandinavian markets via Jonkoping with BAe freighters continuing to Helsinki with shipments to Finland and the Baltic markets, while shipments to Denmark and Norway are transferred unto other freighters into Oslo and Billund, says Mr Norinder.
