Oct 20, 2011 (newstodate): While the Latvian carrier airBaltic has announced the withdrawal of their Fokker 50 fleet from this winter's schedule, at least one of them will remain in service - in Ukraine.
Ukraine International Airlines i operating one Fokker 50 on a wet-lease contract with airBaltic, an agreement that was to expire by the start of this coming schedule.
Since May 2011, the aircraft has been operating on the domestic route between Kiev and Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine.
Operational restrictions have been imposed on Lviv International Airport, prohibiting operations with larger aircraft like UIA's Boeing 737 pending the completion of extension of the 2,510m runway by a further 700m.
The two carriers are currently negoting a prolongation of the wet-lease contract till the end of the coming winter period.
