Oct 14, 2011 (newstodate): Korean Air Cargo may "soon" be launching operations to new destinations including Riga Airport, in Latvia.
According to reports in Uzbek media, the CEO of Korean Air Cargo, currently visiting Uzbekistan, has revealed plans for optimizing the role of Uzbekistan's Navoi Airport by routing new flights from Korea via Navoi to Hanoi, Shanghai and Riga.
Working in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways, Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
From June 2009 to July 2011, the carrier has performed 1,831 flights carrying over 90,000 tonnes of cargo through Navoi Airport.
In 2008,Uzbekistan Airways and the Hanjin Group, parent company of Korean Air, signed an agreement to develop Uzbekistan's logistics infrastructure including the building of a new logistics center at Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In April, 2009, Uzbekistan Airways introduced two Airbus A330-600F aircraft, leased from Korean Air Cargo, to perform flights to Europe and to South East Asia, using Navoi Airport as an air cargo hub between the two regions.
At Navoi, shipments are transferred between Korean Air Cargo and Uzbekistan Airways that operates 11 weekly flights with Airbus A300-600F on routes including Navoi-Delhi-Navoi, Navoi-Mumbai-Navoi, Navoi-Bangkok-Navoi, and Navoi- Frankfurt-Navoi.
Since October 31, 2004, Uzbekistan Airways has provided direct passenger flights through Riga with Boeing 767-300 aircraft on its route between Tashkent and New York.
