Oct 27, 2011 (newstodate): Many carriers are already announcing details on next summer's flights. But Iceland Express is still silent about its plans.
-As we have only recently installed a temporary CEO after some changes, we will probably be one or two weeks late with announcing destinations and frequencies in our next summer schedule, says a company spokesman.
-At the same time, we intend to let the process of finding our future CEO to run its course and take the time it requires, he says.
In late September 2011, Iceland Express called in its former CEO during 2004-2006, Birgir Jonssson, to unexpectedly replace the out-going CEO Matthias Imsland from October 17, 2011.
Birgir Jonsson, however, lasted only for 10 days in the job and has been temporarily replaced by Skarphedinn Steinarsson, chairman of the Board of Iceland Express and Astreus Airlines where he is also serving as acting CEO after Mario Fulgoni was fired as Astraeus Airline CEO.
To add further to the chaos, it has now been reported by newstodate that Mr Imsland is in the process of setting up a new Icelandic low-cost carrier in Iceland to compete with Iceland Express from spring 2012.
