Oct 17, 2011 (newstodate): Icelandair expects volumes in 2011 to exceed
levels in 2010.
-We are seeing the total volumes up in 2011 that has so far been a
fairly satisfactory year, although still not comparable to pre-crisis
levels till 2007, says Sigurgeir Mar Halldorsson, Icelandair Cargo sales
manager imports.
-The Nordic and the Transatlantic markets are very important to Icelandair Cargo, and while the Nordic markets are served with passenger aircraft belly capacity only, the North Atlantic market is served also with freighter aircraft. We are actually now introducing our second weekly North American freighter services between Keflavik and New York JFK, alongside the Transatlantic passenger aircraft capacity.
-Icelandair Cargo is seeing a sustained strong development on the export sector while imports are still trailing behind, albeit slowly picking
up as the Icelandic economy recovers, says Mr Halldorsson.
