Oct 04, 2011 (newstodate): The Lithuanian company behind the successful freighter operations from China into Kaunas Airport, Hoptrans Logistics is seeing sustained and sound development in the market.
-Summer seasons are usually comparatively slow, but volumes did pick up again from September, and our latest incoming flight on October 1, 2011, was indeed surprisingly full. We even had to leave some shipments behind for our next flight which will on October 15 as the flight on October 8 has been suspended as planned due to Chinese national holidays, says Dalia Ciutaite, Hoptrans managing director since May 2011.
-We are also happy to see success on the part of Lufthansa Cargo as to the continued operation from Kaunas to Frankfurt with the Jade Air Cargo Boeing 747-400F coming in from Shanghai based on our partnership with Agility. It is important for the sustainability of the flights to be successful on both the incoming and the outgoing leg.
-At this stage we leave the export sales entirely in the hands of Lufthansa Cargo, but we might see a future where we could consolidate new East European cargo for export via Kaunas Airport, and markets could include e.g. Belarus and Ukraine. Hoptrans has both export and import sales competence, as does Agility. But now and for the foreseeable future, our only involvement with the departing freighter is the ground handling of the operation.
-It is also too early to imagine a second weekly freighter operation, but that might of course be an attractive future option. The Baltic markets are basically imports-oriented, but consolidating cargo on a more comprehensive East European basis might open new opportunities at a later stage, says Ms Ciutaite.
