Oct 04, 2011 (newstodate): The entry by Emirates into Scandinavia from August 1, 2011, has brought new air cargo capacity to the market.
The carrier is now on-line at Copenhagen Airport with daily Airbus A330-200 services, but already from February 1, 2012, the carrier will replace the Airbus with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
In addition to the daily passenger flights, Emirates SkyCargo is also active in the market with three weekly all-cargo flights between Dubai and Gothenburg, in Sweden, as well as trucking to other Emirates gateways.
Capacity at Emirates SkyCargo is sold in the Scandinavian market by its long-time GSSA ScanPartners, while handling at Copenhagen Airport is provided by Spirit Air Cargo Handling.
In August 2011, the first month of passenger operations at Copenhagen Airport, Emirates was rated #7 IATA export cargo carrier, with 4.8 percent of the Danish market, or 274 tonnes of cargo, only 0.9 percent up on August 2010.
In the Swedish market, Emirates SkyCargo was ranked as #5 with 658 tonnes of excport cargo, 8.2 percent of the market, and 14 percent up, y-o-y.
In Norway the carrier was ranked #10 with 3.1 percent of the market, 230 tonnes, and 52.4 percent down, y-o-y.
Finally, in Finland Emirates SkyCargo ranked as #9 with 57 tonnes, 1.7 percent of the market and down 65.7 percent, y-o-y.
