Oct 24, 2011 (newstodate): The sustained consolidation in Russia's airline industry continues with Aeroflot's imminent take-over of the two carriers Sakhalin Airlines and Saratov Airlines.
The two carriers were originally members of the Russian airline alliance AiRUnion set up to compete with Aeroflot, but transferred to the state corporation Rostekhnologii as the KrasAir-led project stranded in 2009/2010.
According to plans, Aeroflot will also take over Rossiya, Orenburg Airlines and Vladivostok Airlines, while Kavminvodyavia, also poised for transfer, lost its license before the transaction could take place.
