Jan 05, 2011 (newstodate): Continental seems to have shelved plans for a significant increase of its service to Oslo, Norway, during the coming summer schedule.
While earlier planning announced in September 2010 to go up to two daily rotations from summer 2011 against daily services on the route between Oslo Gardermoen and New York Newark Airport, the carrier now intends to stick to daily flights.
Continental opened services to Oslo from June 18, 2004, as its launch of services to Scandinavia, later adding flights to Stockholm, Sweden, from June 3, 2005, and to Copenhagen, Denmark, from May 24, 2006.
The earlier plan, now shelved, to double the volume of flights between Oslo and New York from summer 2011 might have been spurred by the decision of the Norwegian carrier Norwegian to open price-competitive flights on the same route - also from summer 2011.
Another US carrier, Delta Air Lines, applied for slots for flights to Oslo from New York JFK Airport also from Summer 2011, but it remains to be seen if the carrier will eventually decide to enter the market.
