Jan 05, 2011 (newstodate): Qatar Airways put Stockholm, Sweden, on its route map from November 27, 2007, followed by Copenhagen, Denmark, from March 30, 2010.
In both cases, the routes opened up with initially four weekly Airbus A319 rotations, soon increasing to daily Airbus A319 operations before going up to daily operations with Airbus A330-200 aircraft as was the case at Stockholm from the start of this winter's schedule, while the Airbus A300-200 aircraft will be introduced on the route to Copenhagen from the start of this summer's schedule aftet only one year of services.
That leaves traffic from Norway to be served either via Stockholm or via Copenhagen.
-Since we opened up the Stockholm route, we have established a prominent presence in the Nordic countries with great connections to and from many cities, including Gothenburg in Sweden, Oslo in Norway and the Finnish capital Helsinki, said Qatar Airways' CEO at the press conference on the opening of flights to Copenhagen.
There is, however, no indication of whether, or when, Qatar Airways may be opening up flights into Oslo, Norway, while the Norwegian market is indeed expecting this to happen.
-We cannot add anything on this issue beyond what has been stated by our chief executives, but it is a fact that we are seeing considerable traffic to and from Norway. Any figures or details are, unfortunately, considered sensitive market information and cannot thus be revealed, says a Qatar Airways press officer.
Given the dynamic pattern of market entry into Sweden and Denmark, and the pace of the process, Norwegian industry sources estimate that Qatar Airways might be planning for launch of services between Doha and Oslo from the next winter schedule 2011/12.
