Jan 17, 2011 (newstodate): A resurrection of the helicopter service between Helsinki and Tallinn may be in the pipeline.
The board of Estonian Air has asked the airline to analyze thje viability of a helicopter line to provide convenient and fast air connections from Tallinn as well as supporting the carrier's eastward transit traffic at Tallinn Airport.
A similar service was set up on May 5, 2000, with Finnish helicopter carrier Copterline's Sikorsky S-76, later replaced by Eurocopter EC 135 helicopters for emergency and medical service operations from three different bases in Finland.
The carrier experienced a fatal accident with the S-76 on August 10, 2005 after take-off from Tallinn, and the carrier never managed to return to profitable operations thereafter.
Copterline attempted to resume passenger services on the route again, but stopped in December 2008, turning to emergency and medical services that are also now a thing of the past.
