Jan 07, 2011 (newstodate): Norway's Ministry of Transport and Communications has finally given its go-ahead for plans to expand Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
In the plans is the construction of a new 100,000 sq m passenger terminal, as well as a new pier for handling of both domestic and international traffic.
With these new projects, the airport will increase its annual handling capacity from today's 23 mio to 28 mio passengers in 2017 with the completion of the first phase of the expansion.
After the state approval of the plans, Avinor will cap the decision process at a meeting this month, after which the work will be started.
In 2010 the airport handled a total of 17.7 mio passengers after a relatively modest growth by 5.3 percent, y-o-y.
