Jan 10, 2011 (newstodate): Most of the reporters covering the endeavors to launch the new US carrier Baltia Air Lines have probably retired by now - but tiny trifles of news still evaporate to confirm that work is being done on the project.
As the latest indication it now seems that 2nd quarter of 2011 may see the green light for starting Transatlantic flights between New York and St Petersburg, Russia.
The FAA Air Carrier Certification process is reportedly nearing the end, and the carrier's 40 years old ex-TAP Boeing 747-200, acquired in August 2009, is reportedly in the final stage of maintenance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while flight crew training is also proceeding.
Plans remain to launch flights between the two destinations as a first step, later to be followed by ambitious moves adding flights to the capital cities of Eastern Europe, including Moscow, Riga, Kiev, and Minsk.
The world first heard of Baltia Air Lines more than 20 years ago, so at least preparations have been meticulous.
