Jan 12, 2011 (newstodate): Russian and CIS leasing companies and airlines are now allowed to import and operate Boeing 737 aircraft converted by AEI from passenger to freighter versions.
This follows from the latest approval by the CIS Interstate Aviation Committee, marking a break-through for AEI in the CIS market where the company is the first obtain the coveted approval.
AEI expects the approval to pave the road for the start of replacement of the about 100 ageing AN-12 freighers now operated in the region by converted Boeing 737 aircraft.
Compared to other markets, AEI sees freighter potentials in the CIS region to be mainly in conversion of passenger aircraft, rather than introduction of pure freighter aircraft.
