Jan 31, 2011 (newstodate): Following on its earlier announcement this month of a cooperation agreement with Turkish Airlines, the Latvian carrier is now also entering a similar agreement with the Russian carrier Transaero.
The new agreement will offer new onward connections via Moscow Domodedovo to destinations in Russia, Central Asia and Far East on Transaero's flights.
Destinations comprised by the new agreement include Samara, Kazan, Ufa, Krasnodar, Magnitogorsk, Sochi, Anapa, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novy Urengoy, Yakutsk, Ulan-Ude, Anadyr, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Petropavlovsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and Magadan.
In addition, passengers will also have connections to Central Asian destinations Astana, Karaganda, Almaty, Kostanay, Shymkent, Aktau, Uralsk, and Bukhara.
By these moves, airBaltic is further cementing its leading role in the Baltic aviation scene, building cooperation on top of its own expanding route network focusing on the role of Riga Airport as the prime hub in the region.
Since October 31, 2010, privately-owned carrier Transaero is also on-line with three weekly flights between Riga Airport and Moscow Domodedovo Airport, using Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
