Jan 21, 2011 (newstodate): Kosovo's Pristina International Airport is heading towards major new developments after the recent privatization.
Winning the tender for management of the airport for the next 20 years was the Turkish-French consortium between Turkey's Limak Holding and the French Aeroport de Lyon that is now to launch extensive works for upgrading the airport's infrastructure.
Included in the plans is the construction of a new 27,000 sq m passenger terminal to be completed within 18 months, a new apron, and a new ATC tower as well as other pertinent infrastructural elements.
Pristina International Airport has a 2,500 m runway and existing facilities also include a 2,500 sq.m. cargo terminal, operating since December, 2002, with a daily handling capacity at 100 tonnes.
