Jan 19, 2011 (newstodate): Despite its current deep financial problems, the Russian carrier Moskovia Airlines, based at Moscow Zhukovsky Airport, has placed orders for delivery of six converted Boeing 737-400 freighter aircraft.
The aircraft will be delivered on a yet-unannounced leasing contract, and the first delivery may be in April 2011, already.
Set up in 1995, Moskovia Airlines currently operates a fleet comprising three An-12 freighters, two Boeing 737-700, and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The planned introduction of converter Boeing 737 freighters follows on the recent approval in January 2011 by the CIS Interstate Aviation Committee of import and operation of Boeing 737 aircraft converted by AEI from passenger to freighter versions.
AEI expects the approval to pave the road for the start of replacement of the about 100 aging AN-12 freighters now operated in the region by converted Boeing 737 aircraft.
