Jam 04, 2011 (newstodate): Finnair is taking steps to its aircraft ownership risk through sale-leaseback arrangements.
During the credit crisis, the carrier recognized its entire longhaul aircraft fleet on its balance sheet, but as the aircraft leasing market is now recovering Finnair aims at operating a partly owned/leased fleet through sale-leaseback arrangements.
As a first step, Finnair has agreed a sale and leaseback of its newest Airbus A330 aircraft delivered in November 2010, in a transaction arranged by BBAM LLC and its affiliates for syndication into the Japanese operating lease market.
The aircraft is now to be operated on a nine-year leasing period.
