Jan 10, 2011 (newstodate): The world's first converted Dash-8 Q400 freighter is approaching service with its new operator, West Air Luxembourg.
According to industry sources, the aircraft is still in maintenance while crews to operate the new aircraft are in training.
The carrier plans to introduce the Q400 freighter in commercial service during the first weeks of February 2011.
The Swedish cargo operator Nord-Flyg received the converted Q400-PF Package Freighter on January 16, 2009 - but while the aircraft performed without any flaws, the timing was obviously not good and the aircraft spent most of its time on the ground before it eventually grounded its operator in the same process.
Nord-Flyg folded its wings in April 2010, leaving the ex-SAS Q400 aircraft up for sale till it was picked by West Atlantic that will deploy it to the subsidiary in Luxembourg.
