Jan 31, 2011 (newstodate): The Danish carrier DAT is deepening its involvement in Norway's domestic air services.
Effective from February 14, 2011, DAT will operate scheduled flights between Bergen and Skien, and plans to add flights between Skien and Stavanger by late February or early March 2011.
To meet this demand, DAT will have to acquire more aircraft capacity in the form of a new ATR-42 aircraft in addition to the five aircraft already in the fleet that also comprises two ATR-72 and two MD-80 aircraft.
DAT's Lithuanian subsidiary, DOT lost one ATR-42-300 aircraft on August 8, 2010, and has since kept the decision to acquire a substitute on hold.
DAT is already in the Norwegian market with flights on domestic routes Flor-Bergen, Flor-Oslo and StordOslo as well as RoerosOslo and FagernesOslo.
In addition, DAT operates scheduled flights from Stavanger to Billund and Esbjerg in Denmark.
DAT will, however, meet head-on competition on the new route between Skien and Bergen as the Norwegian carrier Wideroe has announced its decision to launch flights on the same route using Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 aircraft.
