Jan 21, 2011 (newstodate): Air Iceland, a carrier fully owned by Icelandair, is bolstering its position in the Greenlandic market.
The carrier operates flights between Greenland's capital airport at Nuuk and Keflavik in Iceland, and has recently won a contract in Greenland for official air travel by Greenland's home rule government staff between Greenland and Denmark.
Under the contract, Air Iceland offers flexible and discounted rates for flights between Nuuk and Copenhagen via Keflavik using Air Iceland and Icelandair.
The contract will strengthen the position of Air Iceland against Greenland's own carrier, Air Greenland that offers direct flights between Greenland and Denmark.
Air passengers from Greenland will also get access to Icelandair's Transatlantic flights to the USA.
