Sep 06, 2010 (newstodate): Member of the SAS Group, the Finnish carrier Blue1 has gained fresh strength after beginning to take in its new fleet of 18 Boeing 717 aircraft to replace the five MD-90 aircraft.
Blue1 has thus announced the opening of three new routes from Helsinki in 2011, including Edinburgh, Pula and Marseilles from summer 2011.
Blue1 will take delivery of nine 120-seats Boeing 717-200 aircraft before February/March 2010, with another nine aircraft to be delivered in 2011.
The first nine Boeing 717 aircraft to be delivered are already owned by the SAS Group and transferred to Blue1 from Spanair, and the MD-90 aircraft, also till now owned by the SAS Group, have been sold to an unnamed US carrier - probably Delta Air Lines - that will take in the aircraft during the period starting from Q3, 2010, till the end of Q2, 2011.
