Sep 09, 2010 (newstodate): Russia's airport infrastructure is of crucial importance to many outlying regions in the vast country. And the government is now to invest in local airports.
As a first phase, Russia will renovate the runways of 50 airports in the Sakha Republic, Kamchatka and Chukotka in the northern part of Russia's Far East.
Here, soil runways will be asphalted to allow for steady, all-year round operations with larger aircraft.
