A yet-unnamed cargo carrier has been analyzing the airport's infrastructure the 2,500 m runway and equipment, and a decision to launch flights is expected to be announced shortly.
In November 2008 Russia's Moscow City government shelved its plans to invest in the development program for 17 regional airports, leaving many projects in the void.
Only the development of Ivanovo Yuzhny Airport was completed as it was at an advanced stage already when the decision to stall the program was made.
In January 2009, the Moscow-based cargo carrier AirStars launched two weekly IL-76 operations between Ivanovo and Norilsk and Magadan in the northern region.
