Sep 03, 2010 (newstodate): Russia's Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport is now readying to put the second phase of its new cargo terminal into operations from mid-October.
The second phase of the project comprises 6,000 sq m of terminal area, which is a doubling of the space currently offered by the terminal's phase one.
The first phase was completed in September 2007, taking the airport's annual handling capacity to 150,000 tonnes - which will now be doubled as the new facility is launching operations.
The cargo terminal is an element in the master-plan produced by the German consultancy firm Obermeyer Planen + Beraten for modernisation of Tolmachevo Airport.
The master-plan details the projects needed to turn Tolmachevo Airport into an international air traffic hub, with total investments running into some 20 billion Russian rubles, of which 245 mio Rubles will be spent on the cargo complex.
Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport is one of 13 airports listed by the Russian government as key transit points for air cargo and inter-modal transportation.
