Sep 23, 2010 (newstodate): Reconstruction of Russia's Neftekamsk Airport in Bashkortostan is close to completion.
The first technical flight to test out systems and facilities will be performed in October, and this will pave the road for re-opening the airport after a comprehensive redevelopment program.
Neftekamsk Airport's runway has been extended from 1,300 to 1,800 m allowing for handling of larger aircraft, runway lighting systems have been installed, and a new passenger terminal has been constructed.
The airport is crucial to providing the region with air transportation, including planned flights to Perm, Izhevsk, Ekaterinburg, Noyabrsk, and Tyumen by Arkaim Airlines that was set up at Ufa in 2009 after the liquidation of Bashkirian Airlines in 2005.
