Sep 27, 2010 (newstodate): While new routes are continuously being set up serving Denmark's Copenhagen Airport and Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport is still lagging behind.
At least that is what is driving a project group for generating more air traffic at Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport, working under the title "Gateway to Scandinavia".
The group is not affiliated to the marketing department of Oslo Gardermoen Airport, but works to identify new market potentials to support efforts to attract new traffic.
-We did not attend to this year's Routes conference as Oslo Airport did not want us to, but we remain very active and are convinced that behind the successes of the airports of Copenhagen and Stockholm is a signigicantly more dedicated effort to market their airports, including better staffed marketing departments, says Henrik Jacobsen, Gateway to Scandinavia.
-You certainly cannot just lean back and expect airlines to find your airport. A resolute and targeted marketing effort is required, and Gateway to Scandinavia is our contribution.
-We are now in an interim phase seeking financing of various projects, and while I cannot reveal any details at this stage I am personally convinced that 2011 will see the opening of new international routes from Oslo Gardermoen Airport, says Mr Jacobsen.
