Sep 02, 2010 (newstodate): The official statistics on air cargo volumes at Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport indicate a sustained decline despite the general notion of a re-bounce in air cargo.
With July as the latest monthly reporting, volumes at the airport dropped 13.1 percent, y-o-y, bringing the negative growth during the first seven months of this year to 9.8 percent, corresponding to a total of 41,346 tonnes.
-This is absolutely misleading, and it is obviously reflecting flaws in the underlying reporting system, says Knut Stabak, Oslo Gardermoen Airport marketing manager.
-One fact that immediately caught my attention is that these figures do not include the volumes generated by Thai Airways that has operated five weekly rotations between Oslo and Bangkok all through this summer. Other airlines may be misreported, or unreported, as well.
-The airport's statistical work is based on the figures provided by the handling companies, and we will meet now to discuss the situation to establish procedures that ensure on-time and accurate collection and transfer of data on cargo volumes. And by the way, we have detected errors in the statistical evidence on other issues as well.
-We are of course eager to see that the information contained in our published statistics is correct and paints a true picture of the status and position of Oslo Gardermoen Airport, says Mr Stabak.
