Sep 13, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for for turning Norway's Haugesund Karmoy Airport into a new center for uplift of fresh salmon exports shipments to the US market are still on the table - but have not left the analytical phase..
-Before summer, a working group was set up including representatives from the airport, Avinor and the salmon exporting industries, and the responsibility for working out a detailed analysis of the market potentials has been placed with an external consultant, says Martin Laurhammer, Lufthavnutbygging AS.
-The report is now being circulated in a beta-version within the working group, and the final report will be approved later this autumn. At this stage is is thus still not possible to predict any concrete outcome of the project, and it will eventually be fully up to the industry here whether to continue the process and the efforts to set up new freighter traffic, or to leave the issue open.
-A decision to work for a trans-Atlantic freighter route to serve the regional salmon producing industry will of course require the parties to enter a long-term committing agreement if we are to succeed in convincing an airline to dedicate a freighter aircraft to this purpose, says Mr Laurhammer.
