Sep 10, 2010 (newstodate): Plans are moving ahead for construction of a new international airport at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Tentatively named Ashgabat Oguz Khan International Airport, the vision is to create a state-of-the-art and innovative showpiece to highlight the country's perception of its leading role in the region.
The French construction company VINCI construction has presented proposal for the new airport to the country's president to gain his comments as part of the basis for further detailing.
Other companies, including the Turkish company Polimeks, Germany's EWC and Hochtief, the French company Bouygues, have shown similar interest in the project, and an international tender is expected to be opened to call for bids.
