Sep 23, 2010 (newstodate): The Lithuanian carrier Star1 Airlines, established in 2009, is fighting to stay in the air while its sole Boeing 737 aircraft is still being arrested in Dublin Airport as security in a debts issue between the airline and the airport.
The arrest forced Star1 temporarily out of business on Wednesday, leaving passengers for its return flight to Vilnius, Lithuani, stuck at the airport.
-We are chartering Boeing 737 NG aircraft from "various companies" to secure today's flights from Vilnius to Girona and London, while continuing our efforts to negotiate a solution to our problem in Dublin, says Jurate Rupsiene, Star1 Airlines manager communication.
From July 3, 2009, the carrier introduced flights with a leased Boeing 737-700 aircraft from Vilnius, Lithuania, to Dublin, London and Girona/Barcelona.
During this coming winter season, Star1 Airlines had plans to introduce flights to Munich, while flights from Vilnius to Girona, Heraklion, Palermo and Edinburgh will return in summer 2011.
