Sep 01, 2010 (newstodate): The Lithuanian government is now taking next steps towards setting the country's airports free to act commercially.
The government has passed a proposal for the parliament to consider corporatizing the management of the three airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga as individual entities, still owned by the state.
If the proposal is passed, a tender will be opened for each airports to seek bids for management contracts.
While the airports will remain under state ownership in the first stage, the changed status of the airports will anyhow open the road for later privatizations.
