Sep 23, 2010 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has completed negotiations with Finnish airports and will open a new hub in the Finnish city of Oulu, bolstering the city's ambitions to become Finland's "Arctic Gateway".
airBaltic currently offers four destinations out of Oulu Riga, Turku, Stockholm (in summer), and Tallinn (in summer).
With full hub operations, airBaltic plans to increase this offering to 10-15 direct flights from Oulu.
airBaltic has built up a strong presence in the Finnish market, now offering flights to and from 10 airports including Helsinki, Oulu, Lappeenranta, Turku, Tampere, Vaasa, Kuusamo, Kuopio, Rovaniemi and Kittila.
