Sep 06, 2010 (newstodate): It was long in coming - but now the Hong Kong-based carrier Cathay Pacific is online at Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
The airline launched services on its new route from September 1, 2010, using Airbus A340-300 aircraft on the route served three times weekly.
The route was first announced in December, 2005, and was slated to start by the introduction of the summer schedule, effective March 27, 2006, but Russian red-tape efforts caused the plan to collapse.
Since June 2, 2004, Cathay Pacific has served Moscow through a code-share agreement with Aeroflot as operator of the flights, but the wish for own services remained undaunted by repeated failures to gain access.
