Sep 30, 2010 (newstodate): The Danish handling provider, Copenhagen Flight Services, owned by the Swedish Nordic Aero Group, is determined to launch handling operations at Copenhagen Airport. But it is a touch struggle.
-Two handling companies are well-positioned at Copenhagen Airport, and especially Novia is quite aggressive in securing its business portfolio, says Torben Andersen, Copenhagen Flight Services general manager.
-Having now won a full license to provide handling services at the airport, we are determined to launch operations as soon as possible, but I expect this to happen not earlier than the first half of next year.
-In this competitive climate, the existing companies can rather easily add a range of value-added services to their package to lure customers. It takes a critical mass - and it is certainly not easy for a newcomer to compete with this, as the larger competitors also command a greater flexibility in their pricing towards new customers.
-Still, I remain convinced that there is space for a third handling services provider at Copenhagen Airport, and we intend to dig into this market here. As for future potential competitors that may have similar plans at a later stage, I can only say Good Luck! says Mr Andersen.
