Sep 24, 2010 (newstodate): Contrary to speculations in the market, Finnair has no immediate plans for more destinations in India.
Reported by the Indian press, Finnair CEO Mika Vehvilainen said the carrier does not intend to open flights to Bangalore and Chennai, and will also not re-open the route from Helsinki to Mumbai "in the near term".
Finnair first launched flights to Mumbai, the carrier's second Indian destination after Delhi, on June 26, 2007, initially offering up to six weekly rotations but down to four per week when services were suspended from May, 2009, due to low demand during the slack season.
Rather than setting up own routes, Finnair will instead capitalize on the services by its oneworld alliance member airline Kingfisher Airlines via Delhi that will go up in frequency to daily flights from this winter's schedule.
