Sep 09, 2010 (newstodate): Finnair's engagement, announced in early August, with Flybe on feeder traffic on routes from Helsinki to Tampere, Turku and Tallinn in Estonia proved short-lived.
As a consequence of Finnair's intention to take over its existing feeder airline partner Finncomm, the two carriers have entered a new commercial agreement on cooperation in this winter season's flight traffic.
Under the code-share agreement with Finnair, Finncomm will continue to operate the Turku, Tampere and Tallinn flights, adding a new service to Jyvaskyla and also operating some of the flights on the Joensuu, Kuopio and Vaasa routes.
Besides, the new cooperation will cover flights on the route from Helsinki to Norrkoping, in Sweden.
Finnair will, however, continue negotiations with Flybe concerning "other traffic", as the carrier says without specifying further.
Finnair's move is seen as a strong response to efforts by the Latvian carrier airBaltic to expand its slice of the Finnish air travel market.
