Sep 07, 2010 (newstodate): August proved another strong month for Finnair Cargo that saw total volumes up by 43.3 percent, y-o-y.
The impressive growth was again driven by the Asian traffic where volumes grew by 21.4 percent, to 6,548 tonnes out of the total of 11,149 tonnes in August.
Finnair Cargo launched MD-11 freighter services on May 12, 2010, with two weekly flights between Helsinki and Hong Kong, and two weekly flights between Helsinki and Seoul.
The service was further bolstered from August 17, 2010, when Finnair Cargo added a third rotation between Helsinki and Hong Kong.
Next on the horizon is the addition of a second MD-11 aircraft that will be converted from passenger version after ending its service with Finnair serving the charter market by the end of this summer's schedule.
In addition to the spectacular growth in the Asian traffic, Finnair cargo is also seeing its European cargo volumes up by 35.3 percent to 1,938 tonnes, and the trans-Atlantic traffic also grew in volumes by 13.3 percent, to 697 tonnes.
