Sep 09, 2010 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport is still seeing its cargo volumes at low levels, compared to last year - but it all not just negative..
A total of 748 tonnes of cargo was handled at Tallinn Airport in August 2010, a decline by 27.5 percent, y-o-y.
Eight months into 2010, the airport's total volumes were thus 7,627 tonnes, down 36.6 percent, y-o-y.
The main cause behind the decline remains the shortfall from March 2010 of ex-China shipments for Russia, transited at Tallinn Airport due to changed Russian customs regulations.
But the monthly decline in August also indicated a recovery, compared to the preceding five months marked by drops at 60-70 percent.
The fall import volumes was "only" 19.4 percent, y-o-y, in August, compared to 72.8 in July, and 85.3 percent in March.
On the positive side, the airport's export volumes in January-August 2010 have increased by 21.5 percent, y-o-y, indicating a recovery in the country's industries.
