Sep 28, 2010 (newstodate): In the Baltic region, trends in development of air travel volumes show a diversified pattern.
Topping the list in the region is Latvia's Riga Airport that saw its passenger volumes up by 17 percent, y-o-y, to 3,134,000 passengers during the first eight months of this year.
The growth is primarily driven by airBaltic's strong results from building Riga Airport as its prime transit hub in the Baltic region, turning passenger flows between Europe and a wide range of destinations in North, East, Central Europe, Russia and CIS.
At the other end comes Estonia's Tallinn airport that has seen its passenger volumes retracting by 0.9 percent, to 908,801 passengers.
In-between comes Lithuania's Vilnius Airport with a growth by 10 percent, y-o-y, to 962,714 passengers.
Lithuania's air travel market suffered from the demise by the start of 2009 of its national carrier, flyLAL, which led to a temporary short-fall of air travel options in a year also hit by the global decline in economy and finances.
