Sep 21, 2010 (newstodate): According to airBaltic, the suspension of flights on its routes from Tallinn, Estonia, does not signal a retreat from the carrier's Estonian hub since June 1, 2010.
The carrier has announced its decision to stop flights from early November 2010 on the route from Tallinn to Stockholm in Sweden opened only on June 1, 2010, and to Turku and Oulu in Finland, while flights from Tallinn to Lappeenranta in Finland will stop from October 1, 2010, already.
-We stick to our commitment to serving the Estonian market and the decision to establish a hub at Tallinn Airport. The planned reductions come in response to the seasonal weakening in demand only, says Janis Vanags, airBaltic VP corporate communications.
-Given the aircraft capacity of airBaltic we have to consider carefully where best to deploy our aircraft in order to optimize their utilization, and we are actually operating flights on 11 more routes during this winter, compared to last year, and the coming winter schedule will demonstrate a 10 percent growth in capacity and flights. Besides, we are of course continuing to operate flights between Tallinn Airport and our hub at Riga Airport, providing full access to airBaltic's route network, says Mr Vanags.
