Aug 17, 2010 (newstodate): Uzbekistan Airways Technics, based at Tashkent, has decided to suspend the construction of a new maintenance center for western aircraft.
The Uzbek government confirmed the construction of a new center in 2009, but the plans are now shelved for an infinite time to rein in costs and adjust to the current market conditions.
Also driving the decision are needs to focus on the financing of new aircraft for Uzbekistan Airways that will take delivery of four Boeing 767-300 aircraft in 2013, two Boeing 787 by 2014, as well as 10 Airbus A320 aircraft and seven IL-114-100 aircraft before 2017.
The airline's maintenance arm will continue operating at its existing facilities that holds orders for maintenance works spanning 10 years.
