Aug 23, 2010 (newstodate): The Belgian handling company Aviapartner remains tight-lipped about plans for its possible entry at Denmark's Copenhagen Airport.
According to industry sources, the crucial issue is the harsh position of the Danish labor union 3F that organizes most of the handling staff at the airport.
After meeting with Aviapartner, the union has issued a preliminary conflict warning against the handling company that will be required to adhere to current standards of wages and working conditions applying to the existing handling companies at the airport.
Despite numerous attempts to establish communication with Aviapartner, newstodate has not been able to obtain any comment from the company's CFO who is the only contact person authorized to speak to the press.
It is widely expected that the entry of Aviapartner is related to Ryanair's final decision on launching operations at Copenhagen Airport to be handled at the airport's new LCC terminal SWIFT, scheduled for commissioning this autumn.
Ryanair has reportedly decided to close down 16 of a total of 21 routes from other Danish airports at Billund and Aarhus, while securing slot times at Copenhagen Airport from the coming winter schedule.
