Aug 23, 2010 (newstodate): The Scandinavian carrier SAS is probably not alone in experiencing problems with the Bombardier Dash Q400 aircraft.
Qantas has announced that five Bombardier Q400 aircraft operated by its regional airline QantasLink have been temporarily removed from service following an inspection of a main landing gear component.
While Qantas maintains that the component in questions does not represent "an immediate safety concern", it still has to be addresses before the aircraft are allowed back in commercial service alongside the remaining 16 Q400 aircraft in the fleet.
By the end of 2007, SAS grounded its entire fleet of 27 Dash 8 Q400 aircraft after three landing gear incidents, never returning them to service in an effort to protect its image.
At least one of these aircraft were entirely written-off, and the rest have since been sold to other airlines except five units still waiting for a new operator.
