Aug 30, 2010 (newstodate): The Georgian carrier Air Batumi, set up from January 1, 2010, is now in the air.
The carrier operates one Boeing 737-300 currently wet-leased to Ariana Afghan Airlines, and has wet-leased one SAAB 340 from the Romanian carrier Direct Aero Services to launch five weekly scheduled services from May 30, 2010, from Batumi to Tbilisi.
After the introduction of this first route, Air Batume plans to add weekly weekly flights to Samsun, in Turkey, from September 14, and weekly flights to Trabzon, also in Turkey, from August 16, all using the SAAB 340 aircraft.
Behind the new carrier is the Turkish-owned Aviation Companies Group that operates in sectors like tourism, brokerage, construction and foreign trade especially in Europe and Turkey.
