Aug 18, 2010 (newstodate): A Russian carrier has decided to re-enter the Latvian market from the start of the new winter schedule.
The privately-owned Russian airline Transaero will introduce two weekly flights between Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Riga Airport, using Boeing 737-500 aircraft on the route.
The carrier last served Riga in the 90'ies and was an investor in the Latvian carrier Riair, operating from Riga 1992-99.
The Russian carrier will compete with airBaltic code-sharing with Aeroflot three times daily on the route between Riga and Moscow Sheremetyevo, and from august 17, 2010, UTAir that will operate daily between Riga and Moscow Vnukovo.
With the latest addition to the scene, Riga will thus have connections to all three Moscow airport.
