Aug 18, 2010 (newstodate): Representatives from the Lithuanian carrier DOT, its Danish parent company DAT and insurance inspectors are today meeting at Pori, Finland, to assess the damages to the Lithuanian ATR-42-300 aircraft on August 8, 2010.
The ATR 42 aircraft was parked at the airport when caught in a violent storm that lifted the aircraft into the air, breaking the undercarriage when clashed to the ground.
In the incidence, the aircraft hit the ground with the wing, damaging the main structure.
-It will probably be declared a total hull loss, says Jesper Rungholm, DAT president and CEO.
The carrier is in dire needs for a replacement, but it has yet to be decided if another ATR-42-300 will be acquired, or whether the replacement will rather be an ATR-42-500 of which DAT already has two in the fleet.
